Overview

Librarians Melissa Cantrell, Caroline Sinkinson, and Merinda McLure serve collaboratively as the University Libraries OER Leads. The libraries support LibGuides on the topics of OER, Open Pedagogy, and Creative Commons, and together with the CU Boulder Student Government sponsor an annual Open Educator Award.

The OER Leads and Senior Associate Dean Leslie Reynolds have with CU System colleagues received 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 Colorado Open Educational Resources (OER) grants from the Colorado Department of Higher Education. These grants have supported recent Open CU initiatives at CU Boulder, including educator OER awareness and review workshops, and educator awards supporting course OER adoption, adaptation, and creation projects.

In 2020-2021, a campus task force is working to implement OER/low-cost course markings in time for the fall 2021 semester and in alignment with HB18-1331.

In November 2019, a campus Open Educational Resources Advisory Committee submitted its report and recommendations to the Provost. The committee was created by the Provost in 2018 and charged with recommending a path to invest $1M committed by the campus in 2017 to facilitate a transition to more affordable textbooks and supplies.
