Montana State University is a public, land-grant institution. As one of our values, we state: Openness and Access: We believe in openness and equitable access in scholarship and resources. We ensure that information is readily available to our community. Our Strategic Plan has goal, 2.3 of "Expand, adapt, and diversify collections and services" and it will be measured by "Measuring the number of times highquality OER/OA materials are used."
We have two library faculty members and one staff member who work in the area of scholarly communication as some or all of their job responsibilities. We are member's of the Open Textbook Network, we have faculty with Creative Commons Licensing Certification and we had a faculty member participate in the Open Textbook Network's innaugural OER Certification Program.
We have a recently launched OER Grant Program for faculty adoption, adaption, or creation of OER for MSU undergraduate courses. MSU is a member of the TRAILS Consortium which supports OER efforts across Montana institutions of higher education.
Currently, we are pursuing establishing an award to be presented at Faculty Convocation which recognizes innovation in open education, sponsored by the Library.
