Boise State University is a public institution with the mission to provide an “innovative, transformative, and equitable educational environment that prepares students for success and advances Idaho and the world.” In 2015 Boise State started supporting student success and access to learning materials through open educational resources (OER). This work began as a grassroots effort across campus units, with primary emphasis on online courses and faculty professional development opportunities.
Boise State offered a support grant opportunity that invited faculty to apply for funding in 2019. The funding encouraged experimentation with OER at Boise State and grew our academic community’s awareness of how OER can complement or replace expensive teaching and learning resources. Over 30 competitive proposals from departments across campus were received. Departments currently active in advocating and supporting open education at Boise State include the Center for Teaching & Learning, eCampus Center, Learning Technology Solutions, Bronco Shop, Albertsons Library, and faculty.
