Overview

Texas Tech University is a public research institution with Carnegie Tier One research activity designation and Hispanic Serving Institution status. In 2017, Texas Tech University Libraries began outreach to the campus about open education resources, created an affordable textbook publishing program and became a member of the Open Textbook Network. In the same year, Texas legislature passed a law that requires institutions to indicate if an open textbook is available for a course and to disseminate to students info about availability of courses that use Open Education Resources.

Affordable Textbook Publishing Program

Texas Tech University Libraries' Affordable Textbook Publishing Program allows instructors to develop low-cost textbooks for courses. It is ideal for courses for which an open educational resource does not currently exist. This program is hosted by the Libraries, in partnership with the University Press.
