The State University of New York (SUNY) is the largest comprehensive university system in the United States. Our impact in New York State and across the globe begins with our 64 institutions, including research universities, academic medical centers, liberal arts colleges, community colleges, colleges of technology and an online learning network. We serve nearly 1.3 million students, including nearly 600,000 in credit bearing courses and programs and more than 700,000 through continuing education and community outreach programs. Our nearly 3 million SUNY alumni are located around the globe, each making their own unique impact. (

Coordinated by SUNY's Office of Library and Information Services, SUNY OER Services (SOS) is a shared services organization for SUNY campuses looking to build, support, and expand Open Educational programs and practices. We help lower the cost of higher education for students and empower faculty to use course materials most suited to their needs.

SOS offers:
- User-friendly technology to support adopting, adapting, and building OER course content
- Professional development opportunities, online and on campus
- Networking across faculty and institutions to advance open educational practices
Support in establishing sustainable OER programs
- Mentoring for faculty and staff
- Guidance around opportunities for recognition, research, and publication related to OER

Since 2017, SUNY, the Office of Library and Information Services, and SUNY OER Services are pleased to have impacted the lives 155,000 SUNY students by helping them avoid over 16 million dollars in course material costs and assisted over 1,000 SUNY faculty in teaching over 4,600 OER course sections.
