Chippewa Valley Technical College has been advocating for the use of open educational resources since 2015. Various faculty have been using OER in a variety of programs and have been seeing significant cost savings since 2012. Since 2017, the Library and Information Services associate degree program has been using zero-cost resources in all core program courses. In 2018, the College formed a multi-departmental committee devoted to the advancement of open and affordable educational resources. In 2019, CVTC was awarded a $2.5 million Department of Education Open Textbook Pilot grant for the development of 5 open nursing textbooks.
With our successes, both big and small, the College and the library continue to research ways to advocate for the use of creating and adopting more affordable resources within the next 5 years with the primary goal of student success.
