Overview

At UND, we began working on OERs in late 2015. By 2020, we had 72 courses, many with multiple sections, using OERs. As of May 2020, on an investment of $269,000, we have saved UND students an estimated cumulative $10.8 million, an estimated $245/year for every full time student. We have multiple faculty using OERs in every single College and School at UND. There is an OER Working Group chaired by the Dean of Libraries & Information Resources, with members drawn from the faculty, staff, student government, and libraries. We offer a stipend of $3000 for faculty adapt their courses to use OERs, and we hold workshops on adapting courses to use OERs every year, as well as promotional and informational events during the year. We are also now collaborating closely with the North Dakota University System, and with MHEC (Midwest Higher Education Compact) and WICHE (Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education) on joint OER initiatives.
