Overview

Touro College is a non-profit, medium-sized commuter institution compromised of ten campuses in New York City, with a mission to offer neighborhood-based programs that serve and encourage service to under-resourced communities. The New York division is part of the Touro College & University System.

The Touro College Libraries established an OER initiative called Open Touro in 2017. With this project, we aim to raise awareness of OER, and assist faculty in selecting and adopting open textbooks for their courses. Our OER work is based in the information literacy team within the Libraries.

In 2020, the Touro Libraries were awarded a grant from the Network of the National Library of Medicine - Middle Atlantic Region to establish an OER fellowship for faculty in the health sciences and allied health fields. This work is ongoing; the project period ends in April 2021. In tandem with this fellowship, we have established an OER committee for Touro librarians, as well.
