Central Washington University (CWU) Libraries and Multimodal (the online and distance education unit) received a grant from the Washington State Student Achievement Council (WSAC) for $36,000 to create a path through the newly created General Education program. Twenty-seven grants were awarded for $1,000 each to professors who used Open or existing library materials in a new General Education course. The program begins in Fall 2019. Grant recipients were selected from every college on campus. As part of this effort, an OER course designator has been added to the online student scheduler which allow students to determine which classes have no text book costs before they register. The libraries are working with the Wildcat Shop (campus bookstore) to conduct a review of which textbooks and articles from coursework packets sold through the bookstore are also available free of cost from the library’s collections. Efforts will then be made to notify students and faculty of which resources are available.
