Overview

The University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) began exploring OER in early 2014, when the Dean of the UHM Outreach College hosted a series of talks on campus by Cable Green of Creative Commons. The Outreach College, UH Information Technology Services, and the UHM Library began working on an approach to explore and promote OER on campus. This included hiring an OER initiatives staff member and developing a repository to archive OER developed on campus.

The goals of the OER initiative at UH are to improve student success and reduce the cost of curricular materials while exploring the pedagogical opportunities made possible by OER. The UHM Outreach College currently leads the OER initiative at UH Mānoa, in coordination with a network of OER advocates throughout the UH system. Direct support for OER projects is managed by UH OER Steering Committee members at each campus.
